The Top 5 Reasons Why Your Signal Is Terrible
Ok, some problems you can blame on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint. Others, however, aren't their fault. Let's look at the biggest causes of why you're getting weak signal and how the weBoost Connect 4G signal booster can fix these problems:
1. Cell Tower Distance
This is a big problem in the countryside. Signal isn't able to reach to your cell phone since it's so far from the cell phone tower. And if you're living somewhere surrounded by trees, mountains, and not in direct line-of-sight, it only adds to the level of obstruction.
How the weBoost Connect 4G helps: The signal booster is able to reach to the nearest cell tower and pull in the weak signal like a wandering dog on a leash. It's able to reach hundreds up to thousands of feet away.
2. Interference from the Outside
For people in remote, rural areas, these are trees, hills, and mountains. For city dwellers, these are tall structures, buildings, and other urban surroundings like billboards & poles. Cell phone signals are basically radio waves (the AM/FM kind). And like radio waves, they're very good at covering long distances but struggle with any type of distractions.
Like a four-year-old with an attention span of a fly, cell waves easily bounce, recoil, and absorb with anything as it travels to your phone. So even though signal is super strong at the cell tower, it ends up faded & weak by the time it reaches to your home.
How the weBoost Connect 4G helps: The signal booster takes any weak signal & multiples up to 32X, ensuring better signals to your cell phone.
3. Building Material & Construction
Metal (tin roof). Concrete. Glass. Thick walls & insulation. Energy-efficient material.
Doesn't matter if you live RIGHT next to the cell phone tower, your building material has the ability to block it all.
Many people who suffer from poor signal from building material will find that a signal booster absolutely excels at bringing the signal inside.
How the weBoost Connect 4G helps: Once the signal is pulled in, it's passed through low-loss cables. Which means it bypasses all the building material & blocking construction. So no worries about signal blockage or interference.
4. Bad Weather
Yes, even the weather. A rainy day, fog, snowstorm, and lightning storm can disrupt your signal.
How the weBoost Connect 4G helps: Like a teacher whistle & school children, the signal booster starts pulling in the signal to get in line.
5. Neighbors (That's why we have fences.)
So even with some signal, if other people are around, they're battling you for the same services, too. Get enough people (from dozens to thousands) and everyone is fighting for scraps of 3G & 4G.
How the weBoost Connect 4G helps: Think of a signal booster as a VIP pass. While others are waiting in line to get signal, a cell phone booster basically lets you go first. You get to pass the line and get first pick of the signal.
So these are the main causes of poor signal.
And it only takes ONE of these problems to affect your cell phone. And if you MIX & MATCH any of them?
Endless inconvenience. Endless frustration. Endless disruption to your daily life.
Luckily, help is on the way.
Will A WeBoost Connect 4G Work For You? Yes*
Why the *?
Yes, they work, but it depends on one thing:
Your current outside signal.
Signal boosters are wonderful at boosting weak signal. But they cannot create it. Heal the injured, not raise the dead.
So finding out just exactly how poor your signal is the most important thing to finding out if any signal booster or even carrier can help out your situation.
And looking at the number of bars on your phone isn't 100% accurate. Why?
That's because they’re not scientific. In fact, they’re subjective across all carriers.
There’s no industry standard on cell phone bars & signal strength. For example, what’s 1 bar on AT&T could be 2 bars on T-Mobile could be 3 bars on Sprint DESPITE having the exact same signal and the exact same speeds.
It’s left to your carrier to decide what’s low bars and full bars.
Do you trust them?
The most accurate and technical way is to look at decibel (dB) reading. Cell phone signals operate at a dB frequency of -50 dB to -110 dB. -50 dB is great signal, full bars. -110 dB is virtually no signal, a dead zone. And everything else in between ranges from having good to ok to poor signal.
This dB frequency is absolutely true for all cellular devices and all providers in America & Canada. Once you understand your dB reading, then you'll understand just exactly how strong your signal is. The closer to -50 dB, the better.
Ok, have you done your dB reading test yet? No? Do it first, we'll still be here. Just make sure to walk around your home to see where the strongest signal is at. Do this 2-3 times to confirm the area of your strongest signal.
Ready? Ok, here's a realistic outcome of what kind of coverage you may get:
dB Reading of weBoost Connect 4G:
- -50 dB to - 89 dB: very good to great coverage (2K to 5K sq ft).
- -90 dB to -99 dB: ok to good coverage (1K to 3.5K sq ft).
- -100 dB to -110 dB: poor to no coverage (no boost to 1K sq ft).
Remember, these are estimates and not final numbers since every situation is different and everyone's signal problem is unique.
But in general, if you have ok to great signal, the weBoost Connect 4G will cover most homes. In fringe areas, it's probably 1-2 rooms to a majority of the home.
Just think of signal boosters like a megaphone. A boosted whisper is better than a whisper. But not better than a hearty shout.

How A weBoost Connect 4G Works
So if you have any of the following problems::
- Dropped calls
- Poor call quality
- Sluggish internet
- Stuck text messages
- Spotty coverage
- Low cell phone bars
The weBoost Connect 4G solves all them. It works for ALL phones & ALL carriers. Yes, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and even Canadian carriers like Bell, Rogers, and Telus.
And yes, iPhone, Galaxy, Kindle, tablets, smartphones, laptops, etc. If it uses cellular frequency (2G, 3G, and 4G), it will work with a signal booster.
Here's how the weBoost Connect 4G works:
Everything begins with the outside antenna. This antenna is a uni-directional antenna (also known as Yagi). This means the antenna points one way with a 45-degree angle hunting view. This allows for a higher focus on concentration so that the antenna reaches far to the cell tower and pulls in signal.
Great for pulling signal for one carrier in the distance. Not so great if you're hoping to cover multiple providers.
Once signal is pulled it, it's pass to the amplifier to be given a steady diet of magnification, amplification, and enhancement. The weBoost Connect 4G amplifier boosts the signal up to +65 dB.
Just how powerful is +65 dB?
dB power is measured exponentially. In fact, a +3 dB gain is double the power. For example, our most powerful car signal boosters top out at +50 dB. The difference between the car booster and the Connect 4G is +15 dB or 31.6X the power. Yes, that's correct. About 32X the power! So don't sleep on the power of dB.
Finally, the inside antenna rebroadcasts all that boosted signal to your home. This antenna is a panel that hangs on the wall. Depending on the outside signal, coverage varies from 1,000 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft.
Cables connect the antennas to the amplifier. RG-6 cables are the typical indoor/outdoor cables used in most cables to connect TVs, cable/satellite boxes, and other typical electronic devices. Comes with two 30-feet white cables.
How A WeBoost Connect 4G Works
Installation takes 30 minutes to an hour or two depending your level of handiness.
First, the outside antenna needs to be installed. The higher, the better the results, because it reduces any interference between the outside antenna and cell tower.
Many homes come with pre-existing antenna poles. (For anyone born after the year 1996, TVs back then depended on this analog technology of catching TV waves, amazing, isn't it?) Many of our customers also purchase a pole mount assembly to attach to roof fascia or any high point of the home.
It's important to find out the location of your cell tower by performing the dB test listed above. That way you have a general idea where your cell tower location is at.
We also wrote an in-depth guide about apps you could use to find your cell tower location.
Second, the amplifier should be placed somewhere near a power outlet. Since the amplifier only boosts signal and does not do any broadcasting, it can be placed anywhere as long as it's away from excessive heat with some breathing room.
And finally, the inside antenna needs to be mounted on the wall to an area where you need signal most. It's recommended to have at least 20 feet vertical or 50 feet horizontal separation between the outside and inside antenna.
That's because you don't want the outside antenna to pick up signal from the inside antenna, which creates oscillation like a dog chasing after his own tail.
It's also very important to do a soft install first, meaning don't finalize all installation until after turn on the unit and test antenna locations to get your desired results first. The most important thing is to get the best cell phone coverage boost first.
Probably the most head-scratching process is running cable. Luckily, if you already have a pre-existing cable line (from an old Direct TV, satellite or cable installation), you could use it to ease the installation process. However, if you rather would have a professional deal with installation, any general profession that works with cables like an electrician, cable tv installer, home technician, or general handyman can install with much ease.
Some people really don't really like to deal with cables and will run them underneath their window which works equally fine.
If you are looking for installers in your area or have any questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we'll help find someone who can assist you.
Once everything is in placed and the cables are connected, you turn on the amplifier. It takes a few seconds to load up and once you have green lights, it means you're getting boosted signal. Either look at the increased number of bars or better yet, look at the increased dB gain to confirm how much boost you're getting.
weBoost Connect 4G Before & After
From 2 bars of T-Mobile 4G LTE to full bars!
Or for the technical, -102 dB to -86 dB or 39.8 times the power! Fiddling with the outside antenna might give better results but for the most part, the results are very, very good.
Note: This unit was tested in the outskirts of Houston where cell tower distance, building material, and outside interference (mostly trees) were the probable causes of the low cell phone signal.
Lightning Surge Protector
Practically insurance for your weBoost cell phone booster for home.
If you live in an area with frequent thunderstorms or suffer from constant power surges, then is is recommended.
This easy-to-install unit goes between your outside antenna and amplifier. Should lightning strike your outside antenna, the Lightning surge protector will safeguard your amplifier from power surges and lightning strike damage.
Competition & Other Models
The direct competitor to the weBoost Connect 4G is the SureCall Fusion5s.
Both models boost 3G & 4G LTE for all carriers & all cellular devices. However, there are some differences.
The SureCall Fusion 5s is made of metal for better dissipating heat and it comes with a 3-year warranty. It also covers more sq ft (6,000 compared to 5,000).
However, it's $300 more expensive than the weBoost Connect 4G ($850 vs $550). Also, the Connect 4G is designed and assembled in America for the highest quality assurance.
Two other alternatives are the weBoost Home 4G and the weBoost Connect 4G-X. The Home 4G is the baby bear model that covers up to 1,500 sq ft. The Connect 4G-X is the papa bear model that covers up to 7,500 sq ft.
And if you need professional grade coverage (from 10,000 sq ft to 50,000 sq ft), I'd recommend checking out the Wilson Pro.
