What is HPUE?
HPUE is a special class of devices designed to transmit at a higher power, which AT&T refers to as MegaRange, across specific frequencies.
Standard mobile devices such as smartphones, cellular routers, and the like are defined as Power Class 3. These devices have a standard transmit power of 23 dBm (200mW). HPUE is classified as Power Class 1. They are allowed 32 dBm (1.25 W) uplink power output. That’s 6x the power! A higher uplink means a stronger, farther-reaching signal is sent to the tower.
In the United States, the 3GPP has only authorized high power transmission on FirstNet Band 14. While this band is dedicated for public safety, AT&T allows qualified commercial users to utilize the band during non-priority periods. This enables businesses to keep systems, processes, and operations running smoothly.
